About the show

Get ready for a huge night of comedy as Ripping Yarms Comedy Club presents the one and only Katherine Ryan!

Taking centre stage is the brilliant Katherine Ryan, one of the sharpest and most recognisable voices in British comedy. A panel show regular for over a decade, she’s built her reputation on confessional, no-holds-barred stand-up that never pulls its punches. Best known for stealing scenes on 8 Out of 10 Cats, Mock the Week and Would I Lie to You?, and for winning Taskmaster back in 2016, Katherine has since conquered Netflix with her specials In Trouble and Glitter Room and her own sitcom, The Duchess, which she created, wrote and starred in. Katherine Ryan says what everyone else is thinking, and says it better.

Your evening will be expertly guided by MC Jason Cook, the Hebburn lad turned BBC Two writer who knows exactly how to work a crowd. Mark Nelson adds his own dry, whip-smart style to the line-up. Named Circuit Comedian of the Year in 2021, he’s built a loyal following through his long-running radio show The Good, The Bad and The Unexpected. Completing the bill is Josephine Lacey, whose raw energy and no-nonsense delivery have made her one to watch on the circuit.

Featuring - Katherine Ryan

The product of a strict Irish father and a glitzy Canadian 'stage mom', Katherine Ryan won neither friends nor pageant titles growing up. Try as she might to shed her questionable perspectives and super sparkly nature, she's not sure we can ever truly escape our childhood indoctrinations. Katherine puts a hilarious spin on many topics including life as a single mum and gender hypocrisy in a laid-back, funny, and downright honest show.

As well as being a writer-performer Katherine is also a talented actress and played the lead role of George in Victoria Pile's Channel 4 series Campus. Katherine also appeared regularly throughout the second series of Episodes as Merc's Assistant.

'She has perfect timing and enough attitude to stop an elephant in its tracks' (Time Out)

'If only every comedian was as acerbic, smart and downright funny as Katherine Ryan' (Eastern Daily Press)

'This entertaining hour... flies by... all the hallmarks of an increasingly assured comic...' (Steve Bennett, Chortle)

'Warped wit... striking presence... killer lines... calm confidence' (The Scotsman)

'Thoughtful, funny and just twisted enough' (The Times).

Katherine Ryan was named in Ents24's top 5 hardest-working comedians of 2015.

Mark Nelson

Mark Nelson appearing at this event

With a likeable manner on stage belying some of the stronger content, Nelson often has audiences laughing at things they know they really shouldn’t be laughing at. An MA degree in Politics from Glasgow University supports his brilliantly topical writing and, although his stand-up is certainly not for the easily offended, the material is intelligent, well conceived and beautifully crafted, all supported by a very confident delivery.

He is therefore a very sought-after comedian and writer, with both the skill and intellect to be able to adapt his material to suit and entertain any club, theatre or corporate audiences.

Prepare to be shocked.

'A star in the making' (The List)

'An unquestionably talented writer and performer... great jokes, and lots of them' (The Daily Telegraph)

'A remarkably accomplished stage presence... blistering material which pushes dangerously near the boundaries of good taste' (The Sunday Times).

Jason Cook

Jason Cook appearing at this event

Be ready for pretty much anything when Jason Cook takes to the stage. Behind his cheerful Geordie exterior lurks a dark, sharp comedic mind capable of taking an unsuspecting audience to places they didn't want to go. Dwarves, newspaper vendors, the toilets at raves, true-to-life stories that drag you in and won't let go. Cook is close to the edge but always intriguing and blessed with the sort of charm that'll have you laughing in spite of yourself.

'A wonderfully life-affirming, beautifully crafted, total and utter joy. My jaw aches from laughing' (Time Out)

'Few people have his warmth and spontaneity; it's an act you'd gladly watch again and again' (The Skinny).
