Guitarist Mark Ashford joins us to celebrate the start of our new season at St Nicholas Church, Warwick. Enjoy a glass of wine on us!
Vaughan Williams’s The Lark Ascending and Holst’s vibrant Brook Green Suite capture the spaciousness and vitality of the English musical imagination, while music by Elgar, Purcell and Britten reflects earlier strands of the tradition.
Songs by Nick Drake and Sting sit naturally alongside folk melodies such as Early One Morning and Scarborough Fair, their lyricism sharing the same sense of place and quiet contemplation.

Orchestra of the Swan is rooted in the landscape and heritage of Warwickshire, but its work takes it all over the country, from village halls and churches to the Queen Elizabeth Hall on London’s Southbank, Wilton’s Music Hall and even Stonehenge.
The orchestra explores the English imagination in all its richness and diversity, while always looking far beyond it. It’s not unusual to hear Purcell, Elgar or Britten alongside Nick Drake, The Smiths or Radiohead. Programmes draw on music from across the centuries and across the world, finding unexpected connections along the way.
Orchestra of the Swan doesn’t just perform music. It reshapes and reimagines it, creates new work of its own, and collaborates with actors, writers, poets, visual artists, sound and lighting designers, and musicians from folk, jazz and popular music. At the heart of its work is a belief that the idea of an orchestra is still evolving.
That spirit runs through everything the orchestra does. Its recordings have now been streamed more than 18 million times, its Words & Music productions tour nationally, and its work increasingly encompasses film, immersive installations and new artistic experiences. Orchestra of the Swan is as likely to be heard on BBC Radio 6 Music and Radio 4 as on Radio 3.
