About the show

A wonderful live music event for acoustic and classical guitar lovers and the musically curious. Featuring Richard’s original, haunting guitar music including his newly released track The Art of Levitation.

Indie-classical composer & concert guitarist Richard Durrant will also play music from the High Baroque, the English Baroque and (in a fascinating homage to John Renbourn & Bert Jansch) the English Folk Baroque.

Durrant’s intriguingly unpretentious style of delivery should not belie the emotional depth of his music; witness the onstage persona of an informative, friendly stand-up and the playing of one of the world’s most inventive, guitar virtuosos.

This concert will be performed on two notable guitars – a Southwell concert guitar made from 5,000 year old English oak and the instrument played by Julian Bream on his debut album.

As heard live on BBC Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio 4 and 6 Music, (featured by Cerys Matthews, Tom Robinson, Sean Rafferty & Petroc Trelawney)

Richard Durrant appearing at this event

Richard Durrant has an international reputation as one of the great guitarists of his generation. Since studying at the Royal College of Music he has pursued both performance and composition and kept his ever faithful, ever expanding audience close to his music with his unpretentious manner and natural skills of communication.

Richard is as comfortable performing the classical guitar at the Royal Albert Hall as he is giving a Ukulele concert in the wilds of Paraguay or the smallest, English village hall. He has performed the Aranjuez concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded his own The Girl at the Airport with the City of Prague Philharmonic. He has also toured over 3,000 miles with his one-man show cycling the whole production from gig to gig on the back of his bike.

Richard's adventures have allowed him to dip in and out of the worlds of classical, folk, world and jazz. His honesty and passion for music pervades everything he chooses to do and audiences across the world are charmed by his spirit.
