Tetbury winemakers Simon and Wendy Bond relate the challenges and successes of setting up an English vineyard. You’ll be able to taste some of the wines, as well as place orders for your own personal supply.
Simon and Wendy planted Larkhill Vineyard in 2018 on a five-acre site on the edge of Tetbury. This event will cover their journey – both ups and downs – from then until now, and showcase various wines from their five vintages to date. It may even give you inspiration to plant a vine or two!
Larkhill and its wines:-
Facing south for maximum exposure to the sun, the vineyard is planted on nutrient rich, free draining, ‘Cotswold brash’ soil. Before planting, Simon and Wendy visited a variety of English vineyards, taking into consideration the taste of their finished product together with their vines’ suitability to local microclimates and soils.
Larkhill’s grapes are primarily three varieties:-
Seyval Blanc: Ideal for cool-climate sparkling and still wines. Produces a light crisp wine with flavours of citrus, melon, and apple.
Pinot Noir: This produces a dry wine, bringing sweet and floral flavours such as strawberries, pomegranate and rose.
Phoenix: Produces a dry aromatic wine, with elderflower and herbaceous notes.
