Musica Nova are delighted to welcome back harpsichordist Charlotte Turner as the soloist in Johann Sebastian Bach's Harpsichord Concerto No. 1 in D minor, BWV 1052 for their next concert.

This dynamic and virtuosic concerto for harpsichord and string orchestra was composed in the early 1730s and showcases the harpsichord's brilliance.

The concert will open with Henry Purcell’s majestic Chaconne in G minor, a Baroque masterpiece composed around 1680 that weaves intricate variations over a repeating bass line.

Next in the programme is Henry Purcell's Suite from Abdelazer, a vibrant collection of dances and instrumental pieces composed for the 1676 play Abdelazer, or The Moor's Revenge by Aphra Behn. The suite includes the famous Rondeau, which later inspired Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra.

Georg Philipp Telemann's Concerto for Flute, Viola, and Oboe d'amore is the concert finale, a charming and elegant work that highlights the unique sounds of the three instruments. Composed in the early 18th century, this concerto features Telemann's signature blend of melodic beauty and inventive harmonies. Soloists are Lindsay Grainger (Flute), Helen Parkes (Viola) and Lindsay Kershaw (Oboe d’amore).
