The Exorcist

William Friedkin directs one of the most horrifying movies ever made. When a charming 12-year-old girl takes on the characteristics and voices of others, doctors say there is nothing they can do and that her daughter's only possible hope lies with two priests and the ancient rite of demonic exorcism

When young Regan (Linda Blair) starts acting odd - levitating, speaking in tongues - her worried mother (Ellen Burstyn) seeks medical help, only to hit a dead end. As people begin to die, the girl's mother realizes her daughter has been possessed by the devil.  A local priest (Jason Miller) makes a request to perform an exorcism, and the church sends in an expert (Max von Sydow) to help with the difficult job.

Produced by William Peter Blatty, who adapted his own 1971 novel.
