About the show

THE ROYAL JAM - music of The Crusaders

Carl Hudson (Leroy Hutson, Dexter Wansel, Culture Club) is tasked to take on the Joe Sample keyboards mantle for which Carl’s virtuoso playing style works perfectly. Trevor Mires on trombone (Incognito, George Benson, Randy Brecker) and Patrick Clahar (Incognito, Bill Bruford) on saxophone - both amazing soloists in their own right - achieve the tandem horn sound evoking the signature Crusaders style. On guitar Tim Cansfield (Seal, Stevie Winwood) and bass player 'Level Neville' Malcolm (Billy Cobham, Jack de Johnette) plus top drummer Geoff Dunn (Van Morrison, Oleta Adams, Incognito) complete the highly accomplished rhythm section driving the band.

The band’s inaugural performance was to open the Southend Jazz Festival followed in 2024 with an EFG London Jazz Festival slot along with multiple acclaimed jazz club appearances across London and the south including regular and numerous Ronnie Scott’s Late Shows, most recently 3 back-to-back nights over New Year.

With such an enviable body of work to choose from it means a wealth of celebrated Crusaders tracks for the band to visit and explore. Spiral, Creole, Chain Reaction, My Mama Told Me So, Stomp And Buck Dance, Put It Where You Want It and of course, Street Life, all get stylishly and authentically delivered alongside many more great Crusaders tracks the band covers.
