About the show

PinDrop first came across Tiny Vipers by chance, catching her play a small show in Cork, Ireland back in 2009. We loved it, and followed her ever since. She rarely makes it to these shores, and when she does, the North East has never had a look in. Until now.

This early autumn, PinDrop is proud to bring Tiny Vipers to the region for the very first time, alongside Chantal Acda, for two intimate shows, introspective nights as the nights start drawing in. Saltburn also marks a first for us, our first bonafide show in the town.

Seattle’s Jesy Fortino has performed under the name Tiny Vipers since her teen years. Honing her craft in punk houses and squats, Fortino’s haunting folk elegies are as sparse as they are dense. People and times past wander through her songs like ghosts looking for a home, appearing and then vanishing into deft guitar playing that is reminiscent of John Fahey and Ry Cooder.

Chantal Acda is a Dutch-born, Belgium-based singer-songwriter known for her deeply emotional songs, fragile voice, and genre-crossing sound that moves between indie folk, ambient, and contemporary jazz. Over the past two decades, she has quietly built a reputation as one of Europe’s most distinctive and collaborative musical voices.

Local support comes from Anna Karila, a 19-year-old Teesside singer-songwriter who takes her stage name from the Swedish translation of her middle name, a nod to her Viking roots. After years of cover gigs, she found her own voice with debut single ‘Sweet’, a stripped back, fingerpicked track about what happens when the world asks you to toughen up. Citing Fiona Apple, Courtney Love, Joni Mitchell and Lana Del Rey as touchstones, Karila writes with a rawness and honesty that feels right at home on a bill built around quiet intensity.

A rare stripped back show as the evenings draw in. Not to be missed.

Featuring - Tiny Vipers

Jesy Fortino's music is often compared to early Cat Power and Joanna Newsom. Her songs, delicate to begin with and often ending in discordant noise, continue to be classified using adjectives like 'spare' and 'haunting', but those terms fail in terms of its emotional content. She is publicly coming to terms with her interpretive skills as well as her own demons, and is doing it through an intensely vulnerable medium to boot.
