Opera North - Tristan und Isolde
Opera North - Tristan und Isolde at Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham
About the show
Opera North takes on one of the landmark works in operatic history – Wagner’s intense, ecstatic and transcendent love story.
Tristan and Isolde started a musical revolution with its very first harmony – so important it even has its own nickname, the ‘Tristan chord’. From this jarring yet strangely beautiful beginning emerges one of the greatest and most sensual stories ever told in music, an epic in every sense of the word.
The newest instalment in Opera North’s collection of award-winning concert stagings premieres in Manchester as part of the International Concert Series. Starring Wagner specialists John Matthew Myers and Wendy Bryn Harmer, conducted by Antony Hermus and directed by Peter Mumford, who was responsible for Opera North’s legendary Ring cycle, it promises to be one of the operatic events of 2027.
