Wednesday 21 October, 7.30pm 2 hours including interval Djanogly Theatre £22-£26 Virtuoso kora player, singer-songwriter and composer Suntou Susso was born in The Gambia and now lives in the UK. Suntou’s compositions are rooted in the Afro-Manding and Griot musical tradition with influences from folk, funk, jazz and soul. He is joined by a powerhouse line-up of Gambian musicians, performing together in the UK for the first time. Collectively, they’ll bring mind-blowing musicianship and authentic sunshine energy straight from the Smiling Coast of Africa.
Featuring - Suntou Susso

Suntou Susso is a multi-instrumentalist: Kora player, percussionist, singer and composer from The Gambia. Born a Griot in a 700-year old tradition, the Kora - harp-lute with 22 strings - is unique to the Griots of the Mandinka people. Griots have a unique societal role as oral historians, transmitting and preserving a people's culture through the generations in song, music and poetry. Suntou's family includes some of the world's most well-respected West African musicians, including Seckou Keita, Solo Cissokho and Sura and Mamudou Susso.
