About the show

Experience an unforgettable evening as Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra takes to Stoller Hall’s stage!

As a nod to the 70th birthday celebrations of Chetham’s head of composition, Dr Jeremy Pike, CSO opens with the first concert performance of Chets alumni, Huw Watkins’ Fanfare for Brass. Ruth Gipps Song for Orchestra is a miniature tone poem which gives great focus to the woodwind family before we dive headlong into the pianistic virtuosity of Prokofiev’s 2nd piano concerto featuring year 13 student, Patrick Townsend. The academic year comes to a triumphant close with Mahler’s monumental first symphony, conducted by Karen Ní Bhroin.
