About the show
Malcolm Middleton is a Scottish guitarist and songwriter best known for his work with Scottish indie band Arab Strap. His solo career includes seven albums, starting with 5:14 Fluoxytine Seagull Alcohol John Nicotine (2002) and ending with Bananas (2018). Blending introspective lyrics, indie rock and pop, his music explores themes of depression and human relationships with a darkly humorous edge.
As well as collaborating with artists such as David Shrigley and Mira Calix, Malcolm has composed soundtracks for the films Rogue Farm, Munro and The Closer We Get.
He also records as Human Don’t Be Angry and Lichen Slow.
Malcolm is currently (still) working on his 8th solo album and will finish it at some point…
“Right up there with Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen and Johnny Cash” (SUNDAY TELEGRAPH)
“Middleton shows off impressive acoustic guitar skills oddly reminiscent of a young Paul Simon” (THE TIMES)
“…achieves ABBA-like moments of pop greatness” (MOJO)
“Has a warm, immediately engaging voice that makes even his saddest songs sound strangely joyful” (THE GUARDIAN)
Featuring - Malcolm Middleton

Born and raised in Falkirk, Scotland, Malcolm Middleton first found fame as a prominent member of Scottish lo-fi folk group Arab Strap. Middleton's solo career, which he ran alongside Arab Strap until their split in 2006, has provided a perfect outlet for his personal, harrowing and heartfelt songwriting.
'While his morale languishes somewhere in a cold Falkirk bedsit, melodically his songs whoop from mountain peaks.'
