About the show
Rachel Love – Dolly Mixture, formed in February 1978, is where Rachel cut her teeth. Rachel on guitar, with Hester Smith on drums and Debsey Wykes on bass.
They shared a love of 60’s harmonies, glam rock and punk. The band would later sing backing vocals with Captain Sensible on his solo singles including ‘Wot!’ and the number 1 hit ‘Happy Talk‘ . They were a precurser to indiepop and influenced the riot grrrl movement.
Rachel’s solo career started more recently, first album”Picture in Mind‘ in 2021, produced by her husband Steve Lovell [Blur, Julian Cope]. The second album ‘Lyra‘ was released in 2024, co produced with her son David which is a tribute to Steve. They now play live gigs with another of Rachel’s sons, Syd and David’s own band mates Chris and Nathan.
Groovy Arts Club Band – rhythm n blues and garage punk performed beautifully by our titular hosts, with more than a hint of Bohemian beat poetics, though more Carlsberg than Ginsberg in realisation. Mighty fine Greater London beatniks of rhythm.
Telecom – hot new band out of Brighton. “With a blend of melodic vocals and instrumental harmonies that echo 1960s psych pop and contemporary electronica, TELECOM form a unique dynamic. Capturing their influences, they create their own original sound.”
DJ Mark Bannister – spinning suitably Groovy platters betwixt and between tonight’s acts before Julia Haxen takes over at 11 with a playlist of a more ‘80s party hearty vibe.
