About the show
Live Piano Show - Where Is Home?
Pianist and composer Rieko Makita presents the launch of her debut EP, Where is Home?, at the beautiful St James's Sussex Gardens.
Surrounded by a bespoke lighting design, the performance blends classical piano and ambient sounds into an intimate and immersive concert experience. The show journeys through themes of migration, identity and belonging, with music from the new EP alongside audience favourites including ‘Haru no Sanpo’, a selection of classical piano works which has inspired Rieko's music (Ravel and Debussy) and a preview of brand-new, unreleased works.
Featuring - Rieko Makita

Having performed internationally, in venues such as the Sydney Opera House & The City Recital Hall, Rieko Makita is an award-winning pianist & composer currently based in London and Tokyo.
Rieko made her solo debut at the Royal Albert Hall in February to a sold-out audience and performed live on BBC Radio 3 as the featured artist on ‘In Tune’ with Sean Rafferty in June 2024.
Rieko recently held the position of Constant/Kit Lambert Fellow at the Royal College of Music London for 2023-2024. As part of her fellowship, Rieko led four innovative projects throughout the year, promoting Japanese composers and classical music in collaboration with visual artists.
Rieko was the piano fellow for 2021-2022 Philharmonia MMSF Instrumental Fellowship Programme and the 2021 ambassador for the Benedetti Foundation.
Rieko is passionate about sharing music with the community. She is currently working with DEBUT Classical in London to make classical music concerts more accessible to a wider audience. In Sydney, she performed regularly for the Queens Club Ltd., The Grace Hotel, and The Sofitel Hotel Wentworth as the in-house pianist.
