Song of Ness
Singer-songwriter and former Wild Beasts frontman Hayden Thorpe makes his Barbican headline debut bringing the poignant words and melodies from his latest album Ness to Milton Court Concert Hall on 16 October 2025. Inspired by the eerie fable of best-selling place author Robert Macfarlane and artist Stanley Donwood’s book of the same title, the album reimagines the atmospheric landscapes of Suffolk nature reserve Orford Ness and will be brought to life by Thorpe, performing alongside Macfarlane, Propellor Ensemble and musicians from Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
Hayden Thorpe
Hayden Thorpe is the Kendal born, former frontman of Wild Beasts. Following the band’s split in 2017, Thorpe has crafted his first stunning collection truly all of his own vision. Diviner was recorded over the course of 2018 with close friend and long-time collaborator, Leo Abrahams (Jon Hopkins, Brian Eno, David Byrne). Diviner is a deeply emotional album: lyrically generous in its candid tone and self-awareness, the melodies resonant with sense memory. A startling departure from Thorpe’s previous work with Wild Beasts, it is unlike anything else being made at the moment, with its unique intimacy and open throbbing heart.
