About the show
A thrilling, unique blend of Scottish roots and rocky, melancholic Americana, with added desert noir. Dean Owens’ recent musical travels have taken him all round the globe with sold out tours and standing ovations in USA, Australia and the Netherlands. He’s delighted to return to one of his favourite venues, The Green Note, for a very special and rare, intimate solo gig.
Armed with a searingly soulful voice, a hatful of new stories and earworm inducing songs both old and new, with maybe a bit of Morricone inspired whistling in the mix too. Dean’s solo gigs are always special, with the chance to do a deep dive into his back catalogue – currently 12 official studio albums (with a new one on the way in 2027), a “Best of” and several side projects!
His stories about the songs and his travels are almost as entertaining as the songs themselves, which are masterpieces of economic, filmic songwriting, exploring themes of family, the displaced, and the wanderers in the world. Dean’s most recent album Spirit Ridge was recorded in Italy (the land of his lion tamer ancestor) with renowned producer Don Antonio. Following directly on from his highly
acclaimed collaborations with Calexico, the songs on Spirit Ridge are both monumental and deeply personal, rooted in a half imagined hinterland that somehow connects the lush Italian hills, the US desert states and post industrial Scotland.
