About the show

Preposterous night of new material and nonsense hosted by Caroline Mabey "Oddball genius"- Chortle.

See professional comedians say their new jokes for the first (and sometimes last) time!

This month's acts*:

Ed Aczel! Stephen Carlin! Alex Mason! Hamish Shepherd!

Take note: this is the Camden Head in Camden (NOT the one in Angel)

*Line up subject to change as comedians are liable to get fancypants TV work at any moment. But whoever's on, it's always fun.

Featuring - Edward Aczel

Edward Aczel appearing at this event

Edward Aczel began performing stand-up comedy in 2005 at the age of 38. By the end of that year he was the runner-up in both the prestigious BBC New Comedy Awards and in Jimmy Carr's Comedy Idol (which was filmed for the extras on Jimmy Carr's 2005 live DVD).

He is now a regular headliner on the comedy circuit and by 2014 had performed six solo shows at the Edinburgh Festival.

'One of the strangest, and finest, hours of live comedy I'd ever seen' (Zadie Smith, The New Yorker)

'Perhaps Britain's greatest living anti-comedian' (The Guardian)

'Genius anti-comic Aczel is a superb pleasure to watch, and very much a cult in the making' (Time Out).

Stephen Carlin

Stephen Carlin appearing at this event

Stephen Carlin began his stand-up career in 2002 and soon became a permanent fixture on the comedy circuit, supporting Stewart Lee and Stephen Merchant on tour, also appearing in Stewart Lee's 10 Best Stand-ups In the World Ever. As seen on ‘The Alternative Comedy Experience’, ‘Comedy at the Fringe’, ‘Edinburgh and Beyond’ and ‘Comedy Cuts’ ITV as well as featuring on Radio 4’s ‘Loose Ends’ and ‘Friday Night Live’,

'Sharp, slightly offbeat, mainly very funny' (Bruce Dessau, Evening Standard)

'The whimsy and relaxed on-stage demeanour were a winner instantly... (Carlin) excelled in pedantry, married to exceptional use of language' (Leamington Observer)

'... if this man isn't a household name in five years' time, the world is even more lacking in justice than we could have feared' (The Scotsman)

'... a delightfully off beat act who expertly applies twisted, convoluted logic to common-or-garden observations to produce genuinely original material... a definite tip for the top' (Chortle).
