About the show
Niklas Lukassen displays an astonishing lyrical sensibility and skilful command of the upright bass, the bass guitar, and his unique bass cello. Immersed in the musical worlds of Berlin, New York, and London, the “versatile bass virtuoso” (Jazzwise Magazine) has made his mark on numerous ensembles with an original voice that equally demonstrates a natural bandleader authority.
With Still Waters, his debut on Kurt Rosenwinkel’s Heartcore Records, Niklas Lukassen is making waves internationally alongside alto saxophonist Ben van Gelder, pianist Kit Downes, and drummer Francesco Ciniglio. Enriched by guest appearances from Kurt Rosenwinkel, the album explores unexpected depths.
Alongside tenor saxophonist Alex Hitchcock, pianist Ivo Neame and drummer Jon Scott, Niklas Lukassen dives into his newest compositions on this night of creative synergy at the Bull & Gate.
