About the show

Brahms: Academic Festival Overture Arnold: Cornish Dances Sibelius: Karelia Mussorgsky: Dawn on the Moskva River Britten: Soirees Musicales Walton: Crown Imperial

Join us for this fabulous conclusion to our 50th Anniversary Season! We open with the witty Academic Festival Overture - a nod to the many, now professional, musicians who had their first experiences of playing in a symphony orchestra with NSO. We continue with the wonderfully evocative Cornish Dances from Malcolm Arnold, who spent the latter part of his life in Norfolk and was a regular feature in the musical lives of a number of NSO players. We conclude our first half with Sibelius' well loved Karelia Suite, a piece which features on both player and Friends of the Orchestra wish lists. Dawn on the Moskva River sets the scene for our early starts on concert days and Soirees musicales, our Friday nights spent rehearsing for performances. We end our concert and this, our Anniversary Season, with Crown Imperial, a triumphant and joyous finale, with thanks to our players, friends and audience for supporting us through 50 glorious years of music making!
