What The World Needs Now: The Burt Bacharach Songbook | Victoria Theatre Halifax | Sunday 11 October
Led by Burt Bacharach’s longtime musical director Rob Shirakbari and performed with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, the production celebrates one of the most influential and enduring songwriters of all time.
The evening features special guest performances from acclaimed UK artist Rumer, who worked closely with Burt Bacharach, alongside Mercury Prize-nominated singer-songwriter Ed Harcourt - known for his rich, soulful vocals and distinctive songwriting, with additional guests to be announced.
The show features many of Bacharach’s classics including ‘The Look of Love’, ‘Walk on By’, ‘Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head’, ‘Anyone Who Had a Heart’, ‘Make It Easy On Yourself’ and the timeless anthem ‘What The World Needs Now Is Love’.
Bacharach remains one of the most decorated songwriters in modern music with a catalogue that includes 73 US Top 40 and 52 UK Top 40 hits as well as three Academy Awards, six Grammy Awards and an Emmy. His songs have been recorded by hundreds of artists across multiple generations and genres.
“These songs are the star of the show, and we’re here to serve the music as he intended. I know he’d be proud to see his work reaching fans old and new.”- Rob Shirakbari
Featuring - Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra

The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra (RPCO) was formed in 1987 and has built up an international reputation in its own right. Performing in the major concert halls and concert venues in the UK and around the world, from China and the Far East to North and South America, the RPCO is known for its versatile programming of classical, light classical and popular music.
The RPCO is regularly seen working with renowned artists in the worlds of classical music, pop music and West End musicals and appears at many of the UK’s most celebrated summer music festivals.
Rumer

Former Brit Award nominee Rumer, aka Sarah Joyce, is an authentic and emotional songwriter. Rumer's classic yet contemporary sound has made comparisons with the late Karen Carpenter, while her melodies are modern-day Bacharach or Elton John.
Ed Harcourt

Much under-rated British singer-songwriter, who was nominated back in 2001 for his debut album 'Here Be Monsters'. His sometimes dark and melancholy lyrics blend with piano melody and beauty to deliver a sound not a million miles away from Crowded House and Jeff Buckley. Ed is also partial to collaborations. In 2013 he co-write and produced Sophie Ellis-Bextor's 'Wanderlust' album, while in 2015 he played piano on stage with The Libertines.
