Northern Broadsides' Iron People

Witness a monumental outdoor performance at Eureka! in Halifax on April 26, 2025. Inspired by Ted Hughes’ ‘The Iron Man’ and ‘The Iron Woman’, this event marks the spectacular grand finale of a year-long project that introduces a new myth for Calderdale, challenging our treatment of the planet.

Designed and performed by the people of Calderdale, the event features three towering puppet creatures created by local children from Todmorden, Sowerby Bridge, and Park Ward, brought to life by Thingumajig Theatre. Accompanied by a powerful live soundtrack performed by the Elland Silver Youth Band, including three specially commissioned pieces, the giants emerge from Calderdale’s rivers, moors, and streets, joining local children in a procession that demands action to save the planet.
