About the show
Bellini’s opera, ‘Norma’, is being performed by Guildford Opera Company in the atmospheric setting of St Nicolas' Church. In a land of oppressed people, the priestess Norma, sung by soprano Callie Gaston, leads her people in revolt against their oppressors whilst also plotting revenge against her partner, Pollione’s new young lover, Adalgisa. The opera is sung in English and accompanied by a chamber orchestra. This is a rare opportunity for Guildford audiences to enjoy this work of great dramatic and musical power performed by an award winning company.

Guildford Opera have been performing opera in English for over 40 years. This year, under the direction of their conductor, Lewis Gaston, supported by Stephen Oliver as stage director, they will be performing Bellini's version of the tragic romance of NORMA. They rehearse on Wednesday evenings at the Merrow Methodist Church hall and always welcome new members.
