In 2026, Brighton & Hove Pride proudly celebrates 35 years of bold, joyful LGBTQ+ visibility.

Though not the city’s first Pride our history stretches back to 1973, when the Sussex Gay Liberation Front organised the earliest marches it marks 35 years since Pride as we know it today returned in 1991 and began shaping the vibrant celebration we share now.

As we look back, we honour the courage, protest, unity and love that carried our community through Clause 28, the AIDS crisis and decades of change. We pay tribute to the activists whose love was an act of defiance and we recommit to that same spirit today: the power of love expressed through solidarity, resistance, and community.
