About the show
Horton resident, Alan Thomas, returns for another fundraising concert with his Alionor Piano Trio.
They will be playing a Haydn trio, which includes the ever popular, Gypsy Rondo, a powerful piece by the English Composer Frank Bridge (who is perhaps more famous for being Benjamin Britten’s teacher) and the wonderful Dumky Trio by Dvorak.
A Dumka (plural Dumky) is a type of Slavic folk music which alternates melancholy reflection with lively dance. Dvorak creates six contrasting movements of this type to create a continuous sequence of vivid emotional contrasts.
Full of warmth, spontaneity, and Bohemian colour, the “Dumky” Trio captures Dvořák’s unique blend of heartfelt expression and folk-inspired vitality.
