About the show
A night of powerful harmonies and lively performances with leading shanty band Barrett’s Privateers as they return to Canterbury Festival following a knock-out festival debut last year.
With a repertoire that spans sea shanties, folk and Cornish songs, this outstanding a cappella group from the Cornish Tamar Valley have performed at major events including Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival and Rock Oyster Festival, recorded two albums, and represented Cornwall internationally.

Hailing from the Cornish side of the beautiful Tamar Valley, Barrett’s Privateers are a group of friends who have been drawn together by their love of singing and a desire to maintain the tradition of singing in pubs.
This mixed crew, with ages ranging from mid-20s to 60+, all share a love of sea-faring songs and shanties, traditional folk music and Cornish songs, and produce broad harmonies with a wonderful blend of male and female voices. Barrett’s Privateers bring power and harmony to their lively and hugely entertaining performances.
