When two close friends fall in love with Sylvia, heartbreak ensues. Proteus has betrayed his beloved Julia and soon sets about betraying his friend, Valentine. But the two gentlemen have two servants, one of whom has a dog, and Speed and Launce give their masters as good they get.
Shakespeare youthful comedy has surprising depths and darkness. Directed by Stephen Unwin, fresh from directing Tilda Swinton in Man to Man at the Royal Court, this new, modern dress production cuts straight to the heart.
