About the show

There have been no less than 17 different examples of railways and tramways in the Avon Gorge. We are delighted to welcome Professor Richard Coates back to the Barn to talk about the history of these rails, presenting the evidence for their existence and the possible chronological order of their origins.

Professor Richard Coates is a Professor emeritus of Onomastics at UWE Bristol with special interests in the area where linguistics, history and geography meet. Prof Coates is also deeply interested in local history - previously of Sussex and now of the Bristol area including south-east Wales. He is general editor of a series publishing significant historical documents from Gloucestershire.

The talk starts at 7pm. Seating is unreserved. Doors and Bar open from 6.30pm. Free parking at the Barn. If you need a specific parking space (eg. wheelchair accessible) or any accessible seating for the talk, please complete the relevant section at the time of booking.

The talk is also live-streamed on Zoom for those who cannot get to the Barn in person. Book online at Ticketsource and choose the Zoom ticket option. The joining link will be emailed to you before 6pm.

Early bird discount of £2 per ticket for all tickets booked 2 weeks or more in advance (booking fee applies). Tickets on the door £9.50 (availability cannot be guaranteed).
