Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling
Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling at Judi Campbell Studio @ BHOS Community Arts Hub, Brighton
About the show
Steel Magnolias is a heart-warming, feel-good show which celebrates the extraordinary strength that binds ordinary people.14.7/26
Truvy is the beating heart of the beauty salon in 1980s small-town Louisiana, where the hairspray is strong, the gossip is stronger, and the laughter never stops.
The salon women, whose hearts are as big as their hair-dos, swap secrets and recipes but when the chips are down they are there to pick each other up.
Playwright, Robert Harling, coined the term, Steel Magnolias, to combine two contrasting symbols: the unshakeable strength of steel and the delicate Southern flower, the magnolia.
Steel Magnolias is based on the real-life death of Harling’s sister and shows that unshakeable strength being tested to the limit as six friends navigate life, love, marriage, and profound tragedy. This is the latest production at new theatre in north Brighton, the BHOS Community Arts Hub, which is based at Carden Primary School. The Hub includes a 70-seater theatre, dance studios, rehearsal rooms, a bar etc. And our studio theatre is fully air-conditioned.
“You laugh, you cry. What more do you want from an evening in the theater?” Louisianna Advocate “Harling has given his women sharp, funny dialogue. The play builds beautifully to a conclusion that is deeply moving.” New York Daily News
