About the show
Head of the Lakeman Clan, Geoff brings something to delight us all with a mix of folk, jazz, swing, ragtime, sea shanties and more! Who knew a concertina could be so versatile when in the hands of a master. Geoff is a brilliant performer, with tales to tell and a grand sense of humour
Supporting Geoff we welcome back the versatile duo on Antoine and Owena (Wen) with a selection of mostly their own material. Trad style folk songs with a contemporary edge.
Featuring
Geoff Lakeman
Geoff Lakeman, who lives on Dartmoor, is an internationally-recognised leading exponent of the rare Crane Duet Concertina. He performs self-penned songs, English, Irish and Scottish folk, and other music as varied as Jimmie Rodgers, Randy Newman, Richard Thompson and 1920/30's jazz standards. He's the father of a virtual folk dynasty - youngest son is internationally-acclaimed, Seth Lakeman. Elder brother is Sean who played in Seth's band and produced his Mercury Music Award, Top Ten, gold and silver albums. Sean and his wife, Yorkshire singer Kathryn Roberts, are the current BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards "Best Duo". Geoff's piano-playing middle son Sam is married to Irish singing sensation Cara Dillon. Their band plays all over the world. The Lakeman Brothers originally started out playing in a family band with Geoff and their mum violin-playing mum Joy.
