Balfolk brings together social folk dances from across France and beyond: from flowing mazurkas and waltzes to lively bourrées and Breton dances. It’s sociable, varied and open to everyone, whether you’re an experienced dancer or completely new to Balfolk.
Helen Gentile & Lewis Wood are one of the UK’s leading Balfolk duos, playing clarinet and fiddle in imaginative arrangements that provide plenty to listen to and to enjoy as a dancer on the floor. Drawing on traditional tunes, contemporary Balfolk composers and their own music, their playing is rooted firmly in the European dance tradition while bringing plenty of their own character to it.
